Singing Lungs’ sophomore album, "Coming Around" will see release in February of 2023. Following the self-released debut album “Groan” and two EPs on Count Your Lucky Stars Records, Coming Around presents a collection of songs blending influences from 90’s pop punk, alternative, and grunge (think Lemonheads, Dinosaur Jr., and Samian) with the hooks and raw energy of 80’s power pop (think Husker Du and Wreckless Eric). The songs, written and demoed remotely during the early stages of the pandemic, reflect on themes of friendship, connection and creativity during times of isolation.

"Coming Around" features guest appearances from Laura Stevenson (vocals on “Around Again), Jamie Woolford from The Stereo (vocals on “Static), Miski Dee Rodriguez from City Mouse (vocals and guitar on “Read a Book and Take a Nap”), and Rick Johnson (theremin on “Static”).

Coming Around was recorded by Mustard Plug bassist and Jeff Rosenstock collaborator, Rick Johnson at Cold War Studios and mastered by Justin Perkins (Bash & Pop, Screeching Weasel, Riverdales, etc) at Mystery Room Mastering. The artwork was designed by former Lookout! Records owner, Christopher Appelgren. Coming Around is a split-label release from Count Your Lucky Stars (US), Sell The Heart Records (US), Engineer Records (UK), and Waterslide Records (Japan) and will be released digitally and on two colored vinyl variants.

Singing Lungs has shared stages around the Midwest with Lagwagon, Child Bite, Mustard Plug, Laura Stevenson, Devon Kay and the Solutions, and indie legend J. Robbins. They even landed a spot opening for a Bernie Sanders rally in Michigan ahead of the 2020 election. In October of 2022, the band made their first appearance at The Fest in Gainesville, Florida.

"Coming Around" comes out on vinyl and digitally on 2/24/23. Co-released by Count Your Lucky Stars, Sell the Heart, Engineer Records (UK), and Waterslide Records (Japan)

Where I'm At 03:42
I don’t think I want to I don’t think I can I don’t think I’m going to Sing this song again I don’t think I’m ready don’t think I understand I don’t think you knew that You never had a chance And I know it’s not my fault But still I wish I could take it back Yeah I know it’s not my fault But that doesn’t change where I’m at Maybe one day I’ll want to Maybe I’ll try again Maybe one day I’ll find you Right back where I began Maybe this time will change me Maybe I’m just too scared Maybe something is breaking And life is still not fair
2.
When I sing I sing these songs for you A little more than I sing for me When I breathe I breathe out easy Though I don’t think you’re listening I count the days by the song that I have played Hang my hopes on the places that I go But how could I know How could I ever know When I’m too slow I might lose control Counting backwards the things I know Where will I go When I’m lost out on the road And it feels too far to go back home
3.
Around Again 03:02
There’s a lot of room in front of this stage What’s keeping you from this place Are my songs boring, or just alright Are you afraid to go out at night Responsibility got you all tied up No one around to fill your cup This view is kinda bleak from where I stand Just call me back next week or whenever you can When are you coming around again Everybody’s wondering where you’ve been All grown up with no place to go Living life on the other end of that phone Don’t you lose that tune you used to sing Don’t get lost trying to prove something When are you coming around again Everybody’s wondering where you’ve been
4.
If I keep talking I don’t have to stop and think About what you think of me If I keep praying, I keep praying, I keep praying Then I don’t have to keep on listening Maybe we can sit around Maybe we can talk it out If only I could shut my mouth Don’t wanna live like this forever Don’t wanna come down so hard Don’t wanna live like this forever I don’t wanna come down so hard If I keep thinking “well, this is the way it’s always been” Then that’s the way it’s gonna be If I keep running on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on What will I miss that I can’t see Maybe we can sit around Maybe we can talk it out If only I could shut my mouth Don’t wanna live like this forever Don’t wanna come down so hard Don’t wanna live like this forever I don’t wanna come down so hard

See You 04:06
So many Saturdays I am stuck inside my head Why is every day just like yesterday What makes my song special It sounds just like Those other songs Maybe if I keep trying I can figure out what’s wrong I’ll keep coming back Until I come back I’ll keep coming back Until you come in black I will See you I will see you when you come around again Used to love my Sundays Got tripped up on being right Now it’s just another, “maybe someday” What makes you comfortable Makes me jump out of my skin Why makes you comfortable is insufferable
6.
Static 02:53
A controlled burn engulfs my skin Abandon winter love for summer friends Chasing sleep to find the dreams we fight The dreams we fight while we lie wide awake. End transmission. I’m not coming through just right I hear static. I am stagnant. We are static in the night End transmission. I’m not coming through just right This feedback loop, repeating end on end Internal cadence timing out again Standing still to chase these pills we take these pills we take to ease us from our heads. End transmission. I’m not coming through just right I hear static. I am stagnant. We are static in the night End transmission. I’m not coming through just right

Hey hey I’m standing tall Hey hey I’m coming through that wall Hey I’m a know it all Hey hey I’m coming on strong Hey hey Now it won’t be long Hey I’m almost never wrong It’s pretty nice to not get lost Not so easily turned or tossed Hey hey I don’t lack confidence Hey hey Can’t shake common sense Hey I’m ok and that’s present tense Hey hey I’m not so tired today Hey hey Everything’s ok Hey I’m not worried, come what may
8.
Bored and lonely And a little mean Too old and homely What’s the point, it must be me Probably better To leave it be But maybe not I’ll just wait, wait and see Yeah, oh yeah, isn’t that something And something is better than nothing Sick and tired And losing sleep Tossing, turning Bury my head underneath the sheets Probably better Way down deep But I don’t know Cause I’m not the best company to keep
9.
Had another strange dream last night Glad I woke up by your you side I’d tell you what it means but I Can’t remember anything at all Had another bad day, Yes I’ll Tell you about it sometime Don’t mean to complain but I Know it doesn’t bother you at all When things are good you say it gets better When things are great nothing else matters These days are kinda off in my mind It’s probably time to go back outside You can come along but I Don’t wanna see anyone else at all Maybe we can take a short ride I’ll let you lead the way sometimes Don’t know where I’m going but I Don’t need anything else at all
10.
Read another book today I think it was by what’s-his-name? Not the best use of time But I just had to get away See it as a great escape Overgrown path to take Don’t know where I’m going Just the trouble that it makes Somethings coming I keep running Heartbeat drumming It’s not fun and I don’t wanna run out of time Asleep on the couch again One way to turn off my brain I’ll feel more like myself And try again another day This haze is lifted What’s coming around the bend Another chapter Not just a hurry to the end
11.
When you step through that door And you see something more And it's more than what you had before Maybe I talk too much When my eyes are closed Maybe I don’t need luck When you are so close When you step through that door And you see something more And it's more than what you had before When you step inside And you open your eyes And there’s more passed what you hide behind I’m happy to wait around Until its time to go And when I hear the sound I’m pretty sure I’ll know When you step through that door And you see something more And it's more than what you had before When you step inside And you open your eyes And there’s more passed what you hide behind
